Symptom and Urgent Review Clinic (SURC)

The Symptom and Urgent Review Clinic (SURC) supports patients experiencing side effects during cancer treatment.

Who we care for

Oncology and haematology patients currently having treatment at the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC) are able to contact SURC for support in managing their treatment related symptoms. This includes patients of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted treatment. Eligibility lasts up to 12 weeks from your last treatment.

What you can expect

Patients (or your support person) can call to get advice and support from an experienced oncology nurse if you have concerns or are feeling unwell.

The nurse will ask about your symptoms and some general information, and then offer one or more of the following:

  • how to manage or improve your symptoms
  • advise you to come into the SURC for review
  • advise you to see your GP
  • advise you to attend your local Emergency Department or Urgent Care service
  • refer you to other health care professionals if required
