Renal Medicine/Nephrology

Nephrology is a specialty for diagnosis, treatment and management of acute and chronic kidney conditions.

Who we care for

We care for adult patients with:

  • chronic kidney disease (CKD)
  • proteinuria and haematuria, not related to urological (anatomical) disorders
  • resistant hypertension due to kidney disease
  • receiving renal replacement therapies, including renal transplant and dialysis
  • conservative care for end-stage kidney disease
  • genetic and hereditary kidney disease
  • preparation for potential renal transplant donors and recipients

What you can expect

Our Nephrology team provides care for patients with kidney disease based on Kidney Health Australia Guidelines.

Patients will receive an initial assessment and follow-up visits if needed. Some conditions require repeat visits for monitoring and for specialists to organise further testing and prescriptions for certain medications. Referrals for dialysis and transplant education are provided if required.

Clinics

  • Twice-weekly renal clinics for chronic kidney disease patients on 4West Grampians Health
  • Renal education sessions run throughout the year to educate about kidney disease and planning
