Radiation therapy techniques

At BAROC, we use the latest radiotherapy techniques and advanced technology to provide the best care, including:

  • External 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3DCRT): Shapes radiation treatment to the tumour, avoiding healthy tissues.
  • Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT): Uses X-ray imaging to ensure accurate treatment.
  • Deep Inspiration Breath Hold (DIBH): Mainly for left-sided breast cancer, minimising doses to the heart.
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT): Sculpted dose around the tumour, minimising impact on healthy tissues.
  • Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT): Reduces daily treatment time by continuously delivering radiation as the machine rotates around the patient.
  • Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR): High doses to small, early-stage lung cancers and lung metastases.
  • Hypo-fractionated Prostate Radiotherapy: Higher dose per treatment, reducing prostate cancer treatment from 8 weeks to 4 weeks.
  • Superficial Radiotherapy: X-ray therapy for skin cancers and some non-cancerous skin conditions (delivered in Stawell).
