Radiation Therapy (or radiotherapy) uses high-energy radiation (x-rays) to damage and kill cancer cells. It can be used on its own or with other cancer treatments.
This service is delivered in partnership with Austin Health.
We provide radiation therapy services to people across the Grampians region. Our radiation oncologists have extensive experience in managing a range of different cancers.
For more information about the different types of cancer and treatment options available, please refer to the Cancer Council Victoria.
We will work with you and your treatment team to choose the best approach for you. Read about our radiation therapy techniques.
Your treatment team includes a radiation oncologist (specialist doctor), radiation therapists, radiation oncology nurses, and medical physicists. You may also be referred to allied health professionals if required.
In addition to providing ongoing care, we also operate a Radiation Oncology clinic for consultations and superficial radiotherapy treatments to treat skin cancer and other non-cancerous skin conditions.
At Ballarat we also offer the Cancer Wellness Centre, a welcoming retreat for cancer patients and carers. You are welcome to use the Wellness Centre and its programs regardless of where you are receiving treatment.
The Ballarat Austin Radiation Oncology Centre (BAROC) is a partnership between Austin Health and Grampians Health that provides radiation therapy services to the Grampians region.
