What you can expect

Pulmonary rehabilitation is an eight week exercise and education program.  It's designed to help people exercise safely and manage breathlessness. The main aim is to reduce symptoms and activity limitations, by increasing mobility.

Program goals

  • Increase exercise capacity by reducing activity limitations
  • Boost participation in daily activities
  • Reduce fatigue symptoms
  • Improve quality of life
  • Enhance mood and motivation
  • Improve adherence to recommended treatments
  • Encourage participation in therapy decisions by building self-management skills
  • Improve education on your condition

After assessment, for eight weeks you will have access to:

  • two exercise sessions per week – tailored to individual needs and goals to enhance physical ability
  • one education session per week – helping you manage your condition. It provides knowledge on breathing techniques, medication use, and energy conservation

After the eight weeks, patients are encouraged to continue with a home-based exercise program. They may also be referred to a suitable community-based option.
