An Electroencephalogram (EEG) records the electrical activity of your brain.
Patients must be at least 2 years of age. Younger patients must attend a specialised service in Melbourne, such as the Royal Children’s Hospital (ph. 9345 5034) or Monash Children’s Hospital (ph. 8572 3007).
For paediatric patients, we recommend the child is tired to encourage sleep during the test.
An EEG involves fitting a cap to your head and applying gel through holes in the cap to touch your skin. The test may include some breathing exercises and flashing lights. You are encouraged to fall asleep if possible.
This test is non-invasive, painless, and safe. We cannot read or influence your thoughts in any way with this test. There is no shaving or cutting of hair involved.
