Day Oncology

Day Oncology specialises in providing anti cancer and supportive care for people with cancer and blood disorders with services in Horsham and Stawell also supporting treatment for chronic disease management.

Who we care for

Our oncology nurses work alongside doctors and other medical staff to provide treatment, specialised care, support and expertise for people with cancer and blood disorders. This includes anti cancer treatment, blood product and supportive therapies.

What you can expect

Once you have discussed a treatment option with your doctor, Day Oncology will organise an education session for you and your support team. You will meet with an oncology-trained nurse who will provide information about your treatment plan, including:

  • how treatment is given
  • how to manage any potential side effects
  • contact details if you have any concerns
  • appointment times

Let your nurse know how much information you want to know, when you want to learn it, and when you have learned enough. Some people want to learn everything they can about cancer and its treatment. Others only want a little information. The choice is yours.

During your treatment, our team takes great care to assess your condition and provide support where needed. We also have a dedicated and caring community of volunteers that visit our units and provide a friendly face and additional assistance.

Oncology Outpatients Clinic

Medical oncology outpatient clinics operate at the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC) on business days. Your medical oncologist will discuss your treatment options with you and recommend a treatment plan.

As your first visit can be overwhelming, it is recommended that a family member, friend or carer attends with you.

During your treatment you will regularly see an oncologist/Haematologist in the outpatient clinic. Access to clinical nurse specialists, pastoral care, allied health staff and many other support services can be arranged during these visits.
