Cotton on Children's Ward

The Cotton on Children’s Ward provides 24-hour care for infants, children and young people with specially trained doctors, nurses, and allied health staff.

Who we care for

We treat children, from 28 days old up to 18 years old, with medical, surgical and mental health care needs. We collaborate with tertiary centres such as The Royal Children's Hospital to provide appropriate and specialised care.

What you can expect

Our Children's Ward is focused on children and families. A parent/carer can stay overnight on the ward with their child and help with their care. We consider parents/carers to be an important part of the care team, and we provide pathways to escalate any concerns you may have.

We care for children through a number of services:

  • The Paediatric Day Medical Unit care for children expected to go home within 24 hours, fast tracking them out of the Emergency Department and into the children's ward.
  • Grampians Health at Home Paediatric Stream provides care at home for children who are well enough to leave hospital but are still needing some monitoring/treatment.
  • The Special Care Nursery cares for newborns, whether full-term or as young as 32 weeks.
  • Our specialist clinics offer outpatient care, helping children with complex medical conditions. We often work with other hospitals such as the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne.
