Cardiac rehabilitation

The cardiac rehabilitation program supports people with cardiac conditions in their recovery and to achieve an active and healthy life. It also provides education to reduce the chance of further cardiac events.

Who we care for

We support people with heart conditions such as:

  • a heart attack
  • bypass or stent surgery
  • stable or unstable angina
  • controlled heart failure
  • valve replacement surgery
  • other vascular or heart diseases

What you can expect

This eight-week program assists people with heart conditions to recover and get back to normal activities sooner. It focuses on increasing your confidence by:

  • learning more about your heart condition and treatment
  • getting back to your usual activities (e.g., work, driving)
  • changing your lifestyle to improve heart health
  • managing your medications
  • stopping smoking
  • recognising warning signs and knowing what to do in an emergency

You will have an assessment to discuss any health concerns and tailor the program to your needs. The program can be joined at any time and includes:

  • 2 x exercise sessions per week
  • 1 x education session per week

The education sessions help you learn more about your condition and how to manage it. After the 8 weeks, you will be encouraged to continue with your own exercise program or you may be referred to a suitable community exercise program.
