Grampians Health is proud to launch its first Environmental Sustainability Plan on World Environment Day, showcasing its commitment to enhancing environmental sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions across its facilities.
As a leading healthcare provider in Victoria, Grampians Health recognises its responsibility to lead by example in addressing human-induced climate change while minimising its impact on the natural environment.
Through energy-efficient systems, green building practices, and waste reduction strategies, Grampians Health aims to create an environmentally conscious healthcare service that serves as a model for others in the industry.
CEO Dale Fraser said the Environmental Sustainability Plan was a testament to Grampians Health’s dedication to environmental excellence and served as an inspiration for others to follow suit.
“With climate change posing significant challenges globally, especially impacting the health of communities and the environment, Grampians Health is dedicated to taking proactive measures,” Mr Fraser said.
“The next decade is crucial and we are committed to immediate action. Today, on World Environment Day, we are encouraging all members of our community to join us in this reaffirmation of working towards clean, sustainable, efficient, and effective outcomes for future generations.”
Chief Redevelopment and Infrastructure Officer Veronica Furnier-Tosco said the Environmental Sustainability Plan would provide a clear roadmap for Grampians Health to make informed decisions, adopt low-emissions technologies, plan and invest in long-term sustainable development.
“Our targets support the Victorian Government’s Climate Change Strategy to reduce the state’s emissions from 2005 levels to net-zero emissions by 2050,” Ms Furnier- Tosco said.
Environmental and Sustainability Officer Sam Harris, who helped develop the plan, said she was extremely pleased to see Grampians Health taking great steps towards improving environmental sustainability.
“As part of the Environmental Sustainability Plan, Grampians Health has established a new Environmental Sustainability Task Force to help work towards achieving our goals in reducing our impact on the environment and progressing towards net zero emissions,” Ms Harris said.
“Our Task Force is committed to ensuring our responsible use of environmental and financial resources to reduce waste generation, focusing on prevention, reduction, recycling, and repurposing to minimise negative effects on human and environmental health.”
“Together, we can make a difference for future generations.”
The Grampians Health Environmental Sustainability Plan aims to deliver outcomes aligned to the priority goal in the Grampians Health Strategic Plan 2022-24 and Grampians Health Infrastructure Plan 2023-2043
