A new on-site doctor will be available at Grampians Health Stawell to deliver timely care to patients at the hospital.
The appointment is part of the organisation’s efforts to streamline processes and make care more accessible to patients in the Stawell hospital.
Having a doctor on-site will enable GPs to devote more time in the medical centre instead of conducting rounds in the hospital wards.
The on-site doctor in Stawell will also be supported by specialists in Horsham through telehealth.
“With this new model, patients in Grampians Health Stawell hospital will benefit from specialist care. If a patient’s condition deteriorates, we have a doctor immediately on site to look after them,” said Dr Andre Nel, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Grampians Health.
Grampians Health Stawell recently resumed surgeries requiring overnight stay and the appointment of an on-site doctor is expected to help us to continue delivering safe post-operative care.
The on-site doctor in Stawell is also able to admit patients who are visiting the urgent care clinic.
“We are committed to delivering care that is responsive to the community’s needs and appointment of a doctor at Grampians Health Stawell is a step in that direction,” said Carolyn Robertson, Deputy Chief Operating Officer Hospitals – West, Grampians Health.
Providing accessible care to local communities is one of the key priorities outlined in Grampians Health Strategic Plan.
Grampians Health was formed on 1 November 2021 through the amalgamation of Edenhope & District Memorial Hospital, Stawell Regional Health, Ballarat Health Services, and Wimmera Health Care Group.
